Francesca Forde and Rachel Adams from Shoosmiths were there to see it and support the Encephalitis Society, which launched World Encephalitis Day as part of their mission to raise awareness of this devastating illness among as many people as possible.
Shoosmiths is proud to be a legal partner of the Encephalitis Society, promoting and supporting the work it does and offering legal advice to its members.
Encephalitis is an inflammation to the brain, which can be caused by either an infection or an inappropriate response from the immune system, affecting over 6,000 men, women and children every year in the UK.
Encephalitis can be fatal but it can also have a devastating impact on the lives of those who survive the disease and on their families. World Encephalitis Day is all about raising awareness of the condition, so that more people are able to recognise symptoms swiftly and ensure that the right tests to diagnose the condition are performed as early as possible.
Sarah Corser from Shoosmiths says:
‘Encephalitis is a life threatening and life changing condition. It can be difficult to recognise and diagnose, but the earlier the diagnosis, the better chance there is for successful treatment. At Shoosmiths we have seen what can happen if the signs and symptoms of encephalitis are not recognised early enough.’
Sarah added:
‘The more awareness there is of the signs of this disease, the more likely it is that early treatment will be given. We endorse and support the brilliant work being done by the Encephalitis Society on World Encephalitis Day and throughout the year to raise awareness of the condition, its signs and symptoms.’
