He specialises in pursuing claims for patients who have suffered as a result of medical negligence by hospitals, GPs, doctors in private practice and other healthcare professionals.
Prior to joining Shoosmiths, Sumit was a Solicitor in the medical negligence department at Challinors. Sumit graduated with an upper second class (2:1) honours degree in Law from The University of Sheffield prior to training as a solicitor.
Sumit deals with a wide variety of cases from relatively low value claims to complex high value cases including, below knee amputations, neurological injuries and negligently performed surgery. He also has experience of acting in fatal cases arising from medical negligence.
Some of Sumit’s recent/notable cases include:
- Six-figure claim for an elderly gentleman who had to undergo leg amputation following negligent treatment.
- Six-figure claim for a young man who suffered a serious wrist injury following a delay in diagnosing a scaphoid fracture. Liability admitted.
- Recovering a substantial sum for the family of a lady who died as a result of severe Grade 4 pressure sores. Also assisting the family with the inquest process.
Outside of work, Sumit is actively involved in local politics and voluntary work in the community. He enjoys most sports and has played badminton for a local team.
