Jill Davies, a solicitor in the clinical negligence team based in Reading, featured strongly in both award wins. Having trained at Shoosmiths, Jill qualified as a solicitor in September 2003 and has specialised in medical negligence cases since that time.
The Shoosmiths team acting for a young girl in a brain injury at birth claim took the Legal Team of the Year 2018 accolade after successfully achieving an eight figure settlement for the youngster who suffers from cerebral palsy and can neither walk nor talk.
In particular, it was Jill’s efforts in marshalling additional support and input from education lawyers (who fought for appropriate SEN provision in SEND Tribunals), Wealth Protection/Court of Protection and medical experts that impressed the judging panel.
Jill commented:
‘It was a genuine team effort from all involved that ensured this bright but severely disabled young girl had the support she needed and allowed her parents to focus entirely on their daughter’s well-being, helping her to flourish and reach her full potential.’
The Pro Bono / Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2018 recognised the pivotal role Jill Davies has played in the firm’s pro bono strategy. Jill established a Thames Valley pro bono clinic partnering with CommuniCare and the University of Reading School of Law in 2009. To this day her commitment to the clinic remains impressive.

Jill was instrumental in setting up the free legal advice clinic and her continued support, dedication and hard work means we have been able to provide an invaluable legal advice and support service for those vulnerable and financially excluded people in Reading who are in most need of it.’
