It aims to promote lung health, raise awareness of lung disease, and promote a greater understanding of the problems it can cause.
The British Lung Foundation (BLF) is the UK's only charity specialising in the health of people's lungs. There are currently more than eight million people in the UK with lung disease, ranging from mild asthma to severe lung cancer. Lung disease kills more women than breast cancer, and more men than prostate cancer.
The BLF offers support and help to anyone affected by lung disease by providing comprehensive and clear information on paper, the web and on the phone. When people need advice in person, its specialist nurses, counsellors and patient support groups are there for them and their families.
Breathe Easy is the support network of the BLF, with more than 200 groups nationwide. Details of local groups and how you can get involved can be found at www.lunguk.org.
Asbestos exposure can cause many lung conditions such as lung cancer, diffuse pleural thickening and asbestosis.
Asbestos was used extensively as a building, insulating and fireproof material, particularly from the 1950's to 1980's. People exposed as long ago as 40 years may only now be developing an asbestos related illness.
