The annual awards event and dinner, held at the Marriott Hotel, Eagle Drive, brings together lawyers throughout the county and recognises excellence in the legal profession across several categories.
Competition in each award category was stiff, but Sharine Burgess was universally accepted to be a very worthy winner, with judges noting that she was ‘highly regarded by clients and the subject of many positive testimonials’.
Sharine joined the firm in July 2003 and deals with a wide range of complex cases, specialising in claims involving significant psychiatric illness in particular as well as handling equally demanding occupational stress, military claims and serious personal injury claims.
Speaking after winning the award, Sharine commented:
‘I really didn’t expect this, so it’s both a surprise and a great honour. I am passionate about helping clients with complex conditions and problems, despite the cost and time constraints all lawyers face, and I don’t do all that on my own. I have a great team around me that shares my commitment to supporting people through the legal process, making sure they get access to justice and are treated with dignity and respect.’
Sharine is a strong supporter of pro bono work and has been closely involved with the East Midlands charity ‘Forces in the Community’, advising and supporting ex-members of the armed forces (especially those veterans with PTSD and other challenging mental health problems) and their families since 2013.
She was also involved in setting up and running of the award-winning Central and East Northamptonshire Citizens Advice Bureau monthly Pro Bono Clinic which has run since September 2011.
