The Ockenden maternity review from a patient perspective

08 August 2022

In episode 9 of the Shoosmiths serious injury podcast, Shoosmiths colleagues Kate Price–Marson and Kashmir Uppal meet with Kamaljit Uppal, who very tragically lost her new born son at Telford Hospital in 2003.

The care that Kamaljit and her son received is part of the Ockenden review into maternity services at Shropshire and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust.

The episode hopes to provide an insight into the failings in care from the perspective of a parent who lost her child and who has been actively seeking to improve maternity care for other women.

This episode covers:

  • The Ockenden review and the findings of the review
  • Discussion around why the tragic events relating to Kamaljit and her son Manpreet occurred
  • What needs to be done to improve maternity care across the country
